𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐏𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚 | 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — Twenty-three years ago, Nepo Mall Angeles opened its doors as the first mall in what would later become the Nepo mall chain of JDN Realty Group. On March 13, the mall continues to stand as the place where that story began.

The milestone also became a moment to look back at the history of the land where the mall now stands. During the celebration, Arni Valdes, Chairman of JDN Realty, shared a personal reflection about the property that many visitors may not know.

“𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙘𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 23 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩, 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩,” Valdes said. “𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩-𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙬𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙉𝙚𝙥𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙅𝘿𝙉.”

Valdes also shared a piece of family history behind the land where the mall now stands. Long before Nepo Mall Angeles was built, the property was home to their grandparents, Don Juan Nepomuceno and Doña Teresa “Nena” Nepomuceno, whom the family fondly called Papang and Imang. Their ancestral house stood in what was then part of Camalig, in an area they referred to as Bale Malati, surrounded by fruit trees including a memorable marula tree.

When the family later moved to Teresa Village and the house was left unoccupied, their grandparents eventually decided to develop the property into what would become Nepo Mall Angeles.

Valdes also recalled how Fridays held special meaning in their household. At a time when Angeles was still a small city, people in need would gather at the large garage of the house every Friday, where Doña Teresa prepared food and taught catechism before sharing the meal.

To mark the milestone, the Nepo community gathered for a celebration that honored the tenants, employees, and partners who helped shape the mall through the years. The anniversary opened with an Anniversary Mass and Mall Blessing, a tradition that reflects the mall’s deep connection with the community it serves.

In his welcome remarks, Engr. Edgar Galam, Senior Mall Manager, shared how the mall’s strength comes from the people who have remained part of its journey.

A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of long-serving tenants and employees who have grown alongside the mall. Several tenant partners were honored for their years of presence in Nepo Mall Angeles, with some reaching two decades of partnership. Employees who have served the mall for more than ten years were also recognized, alongside members of the operations team whose daily work supports the mall experience for thousands of visitors.

In his anniversary message, Aaron Jeffrey Montenegro, President and CEO of JDN Realty Group, reflected on the role of Nepo Mall Angeles in shaping the company’s vision for community-centered retail.

Over the years, Nepo Mall Angeles has remained a familiar destination in Angeles City while serving as the starting point of the Nepo mall chain that now continues to grow in other communities.

Twenty-three years since it opened, Nepo Mall Angeles continues to stand as the heart of the Nepo story and a place where the community it serves continues to grow together.
